Lastingham was founded in AD654. Lastingham is a small village on the edge of the moors where time moves at a slower pace, only an hour from York. Lastingham is close to the many and varied attractions offered in the national park. The main attractions in Lastingham are the church with its Norman Crypt dating back to 1078 and the moors stretching as far as the eye can see. The moors are a haven for serious walkers and those who aren't quite so serious. There are walks to suit everyone's ability.

The Gateway to the Moors

Lastingham has a pub and a hotel. The Blacksmith Arms, run by Pete and Hills Trafford, is a traditional Yorkshire country pub with low beams and an open fire. The pub is open daily and serves a wide range of ales and meals.

Lastingham Grange is located at the top of the hill, on the edge of the moors and is open to non residents for Morning Coffee, Light Lunch, Afternoon Tea and Dinner. The Grange was transformed in the nineteen twenties from a seventeenth century farmhouse to the fine country house which it is today. Since the mid fifties it has been owned and cherished by the wood family whose home it still is.

The Reiki Room is Lastingham's latest venture personally run by Jo Taylor from her house. Jo offers Reiki and EFT treatments as well as a full range of Health Supplements, Aloe Vera, and Bee Products.

Some of the near by attractions are: Castle Howard, Nunnington Hall, Helmsley Castle, Rievaulx Abbey, North York Moors Railway, Eden Camp, Flamingo Land, Dalby Forest, Ryedale Folk Museum, Duncombe Park, Walled Garden at Scampston and many more.
